Crowns

When a tooth is cracked or damaged a crown can be made to be fitted onto the tooth. It is a covering for the original tooth. Porcelain crowns have the most realistic appearance among the other crown materials.

Procedure

During the first visit, the dentist will prepare the tooth to be crowned. Each tooth is the resculpted to provide and easy fit for the crown. An impression of your teeth is then taken and sent to the dental lab where permanent, custom-made crowns are created. This process usually takes one or two weeks. During this period, patients use temporary crowns.On the next visit, the temporary crownsare removed and permanent crownsare fitted. Given proper care, crowns can last several decades, and may last a lifetime.
